I've noticed lately that there is a clicking sound coming from the front end. It doesn't happen all the time and it's definitely not coming from the motor. When I come to a stop it stops. I haven't been able to figure out a way of creating it to figure out where it's coming from. Any ideas on what it could be and I could check out?

BTW~ It's a '00 TJ with 70k miles. No lift, suspension or engine mods yet.

Wheel joints?

Make sure you don't have a zip tie on your driveshaft, while a funny prank, it can take a while to figure out... :D

The front brake pads could be hanging up causing the click.

Dolfy:
If the noise sounds percussive and happens while you slow or coast (clickity, clickity, clickity, clickity, clickity,) I would lean towards u-joints. You can check but grabbing the 1/2 shaft and rotating it back and forth if the u-joint is loose or if you can re-create the noise then new u-joint(s) might be needed. Or take it to a decent shop and they will be able to diagnose the problem for you.

If this happens when you shift from park to forward or reverse to forward then the u-joint in your drive shaft might be going. this will not be percussive only clang once when you shift from park to forward or reverse to forward. But may become percussive when you coast or slow down.

I recently had the front end u-joints in my '95 YJ replaced so I am familiar with the sounds. Hope this was helpful, both of you might want to check it out a little more or take it to a shop, they have to be pressed in and if you don't have the tools to do that then the shop way might be better.

Ugh... I was kinda hoping that I wouldn't have to take it to a shop. I haven't had a chance to get underneath to take a look since it's been raining but I guess that's what I'm gonna have to do. Anyone in the area have the tools wanna help a gal out? I'd be more then willing to supply the beer and food.

all my ujoints are tight, this only happens once on a shift from park to drive or reverse
and i've noticed if it try to gey my foot off the brake as quick as possible it doesn't do it.
mine started after I changed the front pads
that is why I'm leaning that way
pads are cheap so someday I will swap them again
with good quality ones

As far as the clicking sound...my Jeep makes all kinds of noises I have gotten used to...used to drive me nuts trying to track them down...I would spend hours just to discover it was a rock in my tire LOL!
