Anyone have any experience with a performance computer chip in a late model wrangler? I have a 2005 sport 4.0L with 2.5" skyjacker lift and 32x11.50 tires. Since putting this on I have noticed a slight decrease in performance and mpg that i would like to recover if possible.
Any suggestions?

I think you would get more results with a catback and better flowing intake, just my opinion. Welcome to the board...

You put a performance chip in and it decreased your performance?
I'd take the chip out. They don't do anything anyway. smile.gif

no, I haven't done anything. I was thinking about adding a chip but don't know anything about them.
My main goal is to try and get back some of my lost mpg since gas costs an arm and a leg nowadays.

That should work fine with 32" tires...

Well, did you ever get the chip? If so, how did it work out for you. I'm thinking about the jet stage 2 because I have headers/air raid intake/roller rockers, and I heard that Hypertec does not work well with a modified engine.

I can't believe that there isn't someone out there who put in a performance chip. Your responce/input would be greatly appreciated. Am also wondering about the Rubicon express throttle body, has anyone tried that?

All that K&N filter, performance chip, throttle bottle mumbo jumbo is a bunch of hooey. If their benefits were really worth anything they would come that way from the factory or everyone would already have them on their Jeeps. Notice how just about every Jeep has BFGs on them? That's because they are actually good and worth the money. The same can't be true for that other junk. Save your money for new tires or something that will actually be of use. Besides, how often does your Jeep stall out from lack of power? Mine never has.

Dont wast your money on a chip. On a comaro or mustang they work but on a jeep you just pay a few hundred dollars for a plastic box that dose absolutly nothing. The bigest performance increse i have felt so far is a good exhaust system.

I installed a jet chip, banks cat, and K&N intake on my 2001 TJ. This was after 32" tires.
The power is comparable to stock performance in lower rpms, but much better from 2,200 up.The timing advance by the chip made the engine run better.

I'll never understand people that want to turn their Jeeps into race cars.

I have a superchips chip in my truck (Ford powerstroke), chips do incredable thing to a turbo diesel, but to a small gas motor, save your money!!!!!!! They will help gain some, and a small amount at that, lost power, but they will do nothing for eccomonmy.
Goto some of the chip manufactures web site and check out there graph charts on performace gains. You will see what I mean, 2-5% gain?!?!?!

They're a waste of money on a Jeep. They barely do anything and then only a tad at wide open throttle at really high RPMs. Plus it'll make the engine require high octane fuel from then on. Don't bother. smile.gif

a chip wont make enough difference byitself. but if youve done things like intake/ exhaust, high flow throttle body, header. then it will make more of a difference but still only at the high rpm's. so you'll only gain in acceleration on the road.
