I have the dreaded Peugeot tranny and have been wanting to upgrade since I know it will not be soon that it goes out. My question is I have the opportunity to get my hands on a 2003 manual out of a TJ and was wondering is it even possible to fit in my YJ and what would I need to look at (ie drive shafts, bellhousing...) in order to make this possible?

I have not done the NV 3550 into a YJ but I don't see why it wouldn't work. The bellhousing is still the same and I believe the TC is still the same. You will still need the 23 spline input gear for the TC and I would get the shifter and trans mount and the complete bellousing and clutch components if you can. Good Luck

if you can get them get them then you dont have to try and cobble some together. if you still use yours sell em on ebay or keep em as spares for trail repairs=)

That is almost a direct fit for that model transmission, I don't know exactually but you can look at www.quadratec.com (http://www.quadratec.com) or advance adapters and they will tell yah whats up.

So just to sum it up. If I get a tranny out of a '03 tj 2.4L I can swap into my '88yj 258ci if I use the bellhousing from the tj and pretty much all the drivetrain components from drive shafts to mounts. Is this correct or am I missing anything here? Or do I have to go to Advance Adapters to get the right things I need?

The bellhousing from a TJ will fit a YJ and will work fine for you. I swapped in a T-176 that was behind a 258 and used the CJ bellhousing to mate it with my 4.0L. (Edit: I just re-read your post and saw that you are getting the bellhousing from a 4cyl, I don't know enough about that engine to tell you if it will work or not.) It worked fine, and cost about $60 - $100 or so from oly4x4.com. You might need to get a clocking ring for the t-case. If you had a CJ I know you would need a ring for sure, but I don't know about a YJ.

Otherwise it should all go together pretty easily. If you have a 23 spline NP231 it will all go together, but I don't know what the spline count is on the Peugot (either 21 or 23???).
