My son has 31 inch BF Goodridge tires on his 97 jeep. Today I bought him 4 new tires. The spare was a old and smaller tire. He wants to use one of the old 31 inch tires. I had the tire mounted and balanced but it does not fit on the holder. The lug bolts barely come through the holes in the rim so no lug nuts can be installed. I se kits but they mention tires 32 and higher. Is there a kit out there that is for 31 inch tires?

Just use the kit for the 32 or larger, leaves room for upgrade. Plus a 31 is about as big as you want to hang on the stock gate.

If you take the rubber bumpers off, the tire should then sit flush with the mount so it can be bolted down. Then measure how tall the rubber bumpers need to be, then cut them down. You need the bumpers, so don't leave them off.

31" is the largest tire you want to hang on the tailgate, so don't put anything larger back there.

I like the rubber bumper idea but would like to buy replacement bumbers before I cut anything just in case. I cannot find these in the catalog. Do you know if these bumbers have to be purchased from only the dealer?

Most parts like that have to come from the dealer cause they are production parts, shouldnt cost more than a couple bucks per.

Last time I picked them up at the dealer they were $12 each I think?

You should be able to put the 31" tire on the tail gate. I have my 35" spare on the original spare tire holder (I know not good on the tail gate but oh well it's in my budget).
