About to change the fluid in my Ax-15. To remove the skid plate, transmission cross- member do I just release the four nuts from the middle of the skid plate, then the remaining six on the frames? And is synchromesh ok to use in the AX-15? Thanks

Yes But mine only has 2 bolts where the tranny mount is at. Just make sure you have a jack supporting the tranny/transfer case

Personally, I don't remove the skid plate for an oil change in my AX-15. I just use a scrap of cardboard to keep the fluid from running back into the skid plate.
Yes, Syncromesh is just fine. It's what I use (thanks for the tip OhioYJ!) and I refill it through the shifter, much faster!
Here (http://bbb.quadratec.com/cgi-bin/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic;f=4;t=000647) is OhioYJ's write-up on it, excellent, as usual!

Just finished and I too did not remove the skid plate. A long funnel worked fine. Going to tackle the transfer case tomorrow. Anybody use a hand pump to drain theirs? Does it get all of the fluid out? Thanks for the input.

I just use the drain plug to empty ours. I don't worry too much about getting it all out, as I change it pretty frequently.
