I am thinking about wiring up some windshield fog lights. How hard is it? Especially the wiring? how do you hide it and make it look right.

Please advise
Michael

I bolted some mounts right to my w/s frame, then wired both lights, then installed black wire sheathing over the wires, ran the wires right up and over the w/s and down the inside of the w/s frame, drilled the tub at the base of the w/s frame and fed the wires in nad ran them to power and switch behind the dash.

Of course I have a soft top and this is on my CJ6 weekender wonder rig :D

Don't you hate the glare you get off the hood when the lights are on?

Do you mean you want the lights on a light bar above your windshield, or ones that mount beside the windshield near the mirrors? Both of those ways require no drilling if im correct, they both mount on using the bolts for the windshield brackets. Also, i'm not sure if you'd want fog lights up near there, it seems like there would be no point considering fog lights are short distance dispersed light that would probably just light up your hood, instead you would want long range lights or possibly driving lights. Someone correct me if i'm wrong on this.

take a look at the KC 3 light bumper hoop- easy install and it looks cool IMOO. There are no glare issues and you have the option to use fog or driving lights. I have 3 Daylighters b/c i live in a dark deer infested area. At night i can illuminate a relfector at about a mile

Sorry i guess i am alittle vain. I have a wilderness bumper on the front and I am going to put some driving lights on it. I like the way a jeep looks when it has a set mounted to the windshield brackets. I just want to know how do you wire them up? I don't want to drill through the tube!! I just can't figure out the wiring. I want to do this before I buy both sets. I only want to do this once. Please advise and thank you for all your help.

Do you mean "tub" when you say "tube"? If you are meaning that you dont want to drill through the body going from the inside to the engine compartment then i dont believe you have to. I'm not sure on a TJ but on a YJ there is a big rubber grommet that all the other wires are going through, it's located near the steering shaft. all you have to do is put the wires through that.

I know how to get the power from the battery i just don't understand how to get the wires to the lights? I don't want to drill through the body? Please help

run the wires into the door jam. Go behind the fat chunk of weather stripping at then run the wires behind the dash.

Is it really that easy. Is there a special way to loosen the torx bits on the window bracket with breaking the bolt that is behind it?

Please advise

Thanks

I ran the wiring through the plate that runs along the base of the windshield..I actually removed it (screws allong windshield ), under here is where the vent is located...this is where I grouded the wiring with a screw and passed the light wires down to the engine compartment. From there...Yes there is a large rubber gurmet on the firewall ( driver side ) that wire can enter the inside of cab. I mounted switch to my consol (preferance thing ). The power wire from vent area went along firewall ( with black ties ) to Positive side of Battery...Relay was mounted here as well....Clean install...no messy wires visible....Be sure that when you re-install panel at winshield, that rubber seal is still in place...you may have to push it in before you tighten the screws back in.

Hey a running the wires through the weather stripping make it leak? Your truck looks AWESOME. What size lift? did you install? Was it hard?

Please let me know thanks Michael

naaa...it wont leak...seal is quite large and tight...i had no problems and you can do the install with just basic tools...go ahead...the more you do yourself, the more you learn about your jeep...these forums are a great source of info...only job out what you think is beyond your capabilities....the lift is a 3 1/2 Rubicon express with Skyjacker 4" springs...supports the added wieght of both the winch and the larger spare...
Only thing I didn't do on it was the lift...was in February...-30 here at that time
Also has new lower control arms with flex joints on outer ends only....Tires are 33"...still rides like stock...wanted 6" lift with long arms but couldn't fit it in garage with that lift/and 35" tires.
..Jeeps have thousands of after market parts...do what ya can yourself - more satisfying and you learn about your jeep...besides you'll save thousands in labor costs and should something go wrong...you'll know where to look because you installed it yourself...most items usually come with a detailed install instructions anyways..if ya need to...invite a buddy over on a Saturday...grab a case of beer and get to it...just take your time...you can't rush perfection.
check out my run through the backwoods of Kilarney (2 weeks ago)...nice and muddy...need a set of swamppers for aother rims...but was still a great time.

If you need any help...just ask here...me or another will reply...my lights were KC dayliters..1 1/2 mile range...great at dusk or nite runs.Switch was mounted to console...you could drill a hole through panel at base of each lite..a rubber gurmet pops in to seal the wire...but I ran mine through seal Only because vehical was new at that time..Been 2 years now...still no leak and lites work great.

good luck Michael

I ran mine into the dash and ran the wires through the hole by the driver side feet that runs straight under the hood and the setup looks nice. The wires come from the outside into the door and there are no leaks or anything if you're wondering.
