A buddy of mine has a YJ, and he and I were wondering if it is necessary to run a track bar on a YJ. I would think that the fact that the leaf springs dont move left and right like a coil spring does would be good enough. TIA

Toss the rear. It does nothing. In front, get the JKS slip joint bar. Unlock off road and lock on road. Front sway bar can usually be tossed too.

I tossed both front and rear bars on mine. If your running very much lift though, you may want to keep the front one to cancel out bump steer. If your drag link is flat as in close to stock height or running a high steer config, then you don't need the front one cause you wont have bumpsteer, it's when the drag link isn't flat that you'll want to keep it.

I ditched both of mine and noticed no difference except that it can flex a little better and the suspension feels a little more free if that makes sense. I am just running JKS quick discos and have had no problems with the suspension. HTH!

But it is important that you have good, strong shackles to limit the lateral movement of the leafs - the stock shackles should be upgraded.

Rear is gone - really no noticable difference without it.

Front - tried to run without it - kinda squirrley on the road. Ended up getting the JSK telescoping track bar. Oh, and I removed the front sway bar along time ago also.

As noted with my case I have the heavy duty MORE greasable boomerang shackles. They have the thicker side plates to resist the laterial movement like StrongWind said.

I thought my Jeep was kind of squirrely without the front too. After my shackle reversal I tried again and can run without it just fine.

The rear was tossed a long time ago and never noticed.

I like to run an anit-sway bar on road to improve handling. IMO those who say they don't notice a difference without it aren't very "in touch" with their vehicles.

I got rid of the rear track bar when I first bought the Jeep. On the front I ran no track bar no sway bar while I was SUA. It gave the steering wheel some extra play, but no problems, even running 6" suspension, even while on the highway.

When I went SOA I put the track bar on, because the Jeep would finally flex even with it on. The new front axle has no mounts, so I have no track bars again.

Just depends on wether you can put up with the extra play in the steering wheel or not. I ditched both track bars and sway bars.

With the manner which my suspension is dialed-in, here is where mine have been for several years:

I haven't run swaybars or trac bars for several years now. I think that I get some bumpsteer, but I am so used to it now that I'm not actually sure. As far as I'm concerned, it drives just fine.

i don't have a rear track bar, or sway bar, i still have the front track bar, and it really makes a diference in the feel of the steering, so i just kept that one.
