So i am in the process of putting on my new RE 2.5" lift on my YJ, and i was wondering how to put on the new rear brake line. It came with no directions for this part. TIA

disconnect the main brake line on the left side of the frame and at the junction box on the axle and replace it

The nuts are kind of soft and it's easy to round off the flats. You can find flare nut wrenches at Sears, Harbor Freight, Northern Tool and Equipment, Tractor supply.

Don't forget to bleed the brakes after you get it all back together.

I think there might be a little more to it then just replacing that one line. The new line comes attatched to a new juntion box along with a couple brackets. So my question is, where does this go?

No, I've done the extended line (front and back) on my 93 YJ. On the rear, there is a "block" bolted to the rear axle tube. Disconnect the two hard lines to the rear drums, unbolt the block, disconnect the "rubber" line from where it attaches to the hard line on the frame rail.

Bolt it all backup and bleed the brakes. You're done in 20 minutes.....

Are you just doing the rear or both front and rear??

I guess i thought that the "block" was welded to the axle tube. I didnt see any bolts.

maybe the previous owner removed the bolt, but the block would pretty much stay in place, as the two hard lines connected to it wouldnt move much either.

On my YJ/D35, the axle vent tube runs through the junction block - the vent line is a threaded fitting that holds the block in place and has a rubber hose leading to a high spot under the body. You may want to make sure the vent line is there or you'll be sucking water into your axle/diff whenever you go through a water crossing. Need to see if I can find a picture.....

See if this works...(I suck at the internet...)

I've got the factory lines/block still attached to the axle/brake lines (the "gold" colored part) with the extended brake line sitting on the axle next to the stock one. The aftermarket one is about half as thin as the stock one. I took this picture to send to the manufacturer because I was concerned that it was too "thin" - It wasn't - it worked fine.

I've disconnected the vent hose (you can see it on the left side of the pic). The "block" is removed by using a wrench on the fitting - it comes right out.

Does that make sense?

Ok, so ive been working around this brake line for a little while now. The problem is i cant get the stock line(the one to be replaced) out of the line that it attaches to. They are really rusted together and i have tried sprayin them for over a week. Anyone got any suggestions?

when i replaced mine, i needed to replace the short hard line that went from the junction box to the drum.. it wasnt that hard to bend the new line.. i also needed to bend a piece where the line attached to the hard line on the frame rail.. i used a union to join two sections together instead of having to replace the entire long line that is along the frame rail.

personally, i think brake lines suck.. even with 6 point or 12 point flare nut wrenches - they can still be a ***** to disconnect. good luck

first of all i belive they are called line wrenches (not that it matters) and when i did mine i got out the torch and heated line nuts where it goes into the junction block

Just for clarification, i'm having a problem on the hard line that goes directly to the MC, and that connects the line that gets extended. However, i broke the fitting off of the hard line so i am not quite sure what to do. Is it possible to add a new fitting, or splice in a new segment with the fitting already attatched?

if you broke the fitting off you can splice on and extend but i would recommend replaceing that section of line... the more connections you have the more areas that can leak and flareing an old line can become a nightmare... the lines are cheap though especially if you have a tub bender and bend it yourself

So i have the rear taken care of, but now i have a question about the front. Where exactly do i mount the extension? Is where the lines come together on the frame?

just mount the extension right where the fitting is.. but be forwarned.. you may have to replace those hard lines.. i had to replace the drivers side line.. only 22" of bending.. the passenger side did break loose so i got lucky. be careful not to lose the copper washers on the banjo end of the line when removing the old rubber line. you will end up with a leak if they arent on.

So it is where the rubber and hard line come together on the frame though right?

yes
