Any trick to getting the conical post out of the cross bar? Pounded on it, heated it up with mapp gas, sprayed the heck out of it with Blaster...and the darn thing won't budge. If anyone knows the proper combination please let me kknow. Thanks!

They can be a pain in the butt. Try a couple large hammers, hold one on one side of the bulge that the post is in, and smack the other side of the bulge. The impact will slightly egg the hole breaking the bond between the two. If that doesnt work, you'll end up pulling the linkage so you can put it up on a bench to mess with. A puller may work for ya, sometimes it does, sometimes it doesnt. Try a combo of ideas, stress it with a puller and then smack it. Good luck.

Drive it over to a gas station and ask them to remove it. They'll use a "pickling fork" on their air tool. It shouldn't cost $5 or $10. You can drive home without the stabilizer.

Only trick about the hammer method, it has to be solid for that to work. Unless you put something behind the bar so it wont deflect, any type of beating wont work. I agree with the hammer method, just it has to be against something solid. 2nd choice would tbe pickle fork.

Tried the hammers...no go. Took it over to my tire place and the tech used air fork on it for about 5 min before it broke free. Sheeze the thing was almost welded in place!
164,000 miles and the original shocks/stabilizer were still on the TJ! Man does it ride better now!
Thanks for all the info!!!

RD Ride better how ?
Did you put a new SS back on ?
If you did and you can feel a difference, then you have problems somewhere else (something worn).

Fred,

The jeep was still stock when i bought it a couple of months ago(163K mi, no rust 4 banger). I put 31's and a 1.75 coil lift on it. Noticed that it pitched in odd directions when going over a bump/dip in the road. After a 3 day trip, the shocks just gave up, i guess the lift had just stretched their ancient guts too much. Never had a prob with the steering, but figured it needed replacing along with the shocks. The ride now is totally different in that the odd squirrly pitching is completly gone. Steering feels the same....still fine. Now if icould only maintain 75mph on the highway......LOL!
