Wondering if anyone on here knows how to do stuff to a cell phone? I've got a Moto E815 that I'm trying to put ringtones on. I've got a Transflash SD card for it which allows me to play MP3's and Midi's through the phone interface, but not to use them as ringtones. Apparently there is some kind of lock to prevent people from doing this (that way you buy ringtones instead of making them)... any ideas?

you got it from Verizon? Verizon locks thier phones, but if you hack your phone, you can make the internal programming think it's an E815M (media) and this allows it. It's because Verizon wants you to pay the Get____ service.

Yeah I saw a writeup on how to do that... but it takes the usb connection cable and a whole buncha time for something I'm really not all that into. Just kind of a bored project for today. I was just hoping that there is a way around it... anyway- thanks for your help- much appreciated.

i have the same phone...the e815...its not a bad phone but every month i gotta go get a new one because it will have so many bugs in it that you cant even use it...anyway i have the flash card and it wont let me use songs that i put on the flash card as ringtones, theres prbably a way to bypass it but verizon wants to you pay $3 to buy one of their ringtones

Download a program called Bitpim. It lets you do anything you want to your cell. Ringtones, MP3s, wallpapers, etc... I have it for my LGVX9800 and my wife's 9900. We probably have about 3mb of ring tones each all burned from CDs we own or wav files we've downloaded (I have Crank Yankers' Special Ed "I got mail! Yayyyy" for my text alert).

I'll install BitPim right now and see if it works. My phone's already cracked to 815M, but its worth a shot since Moto Phone Tools isn't workin

Edit: it didn't work for me, but...

has the P2K Seem edit locations for stuff. Multimedia needs to be turned on. Try doing this site too: to make Moto Phone Tools think its an 815M

Agreed Howard forums is a great source of info.

Bitpim should work for you. It supports thousands of phones including Moto. Do you have the drivers peoperly installed for your usb cable?

Also for some reason I have trouble using bitpim on out desktop with the new version of IE and SP2. I have no problems at all using it with our laptop and the old SP.

I actually don't have the USB cable yet... figured it wasn't worth the 20 bucks just for ringtones. I do have the TransFlash Card (Basically a mini SD)... but I doubt that does me any good for actually accessing the phone.

If your computer has a sd card slot then you can put the micro sd into the adapter and try that to see if that works.

Yeah- I can read the SD... but I'm still not sure how it would grant me access to the phone drivers.

When I get home I'll post up a way to do it.

Basically, you have to convert the file to a .wav (about 30 seconds long works good)and then e-mail it to your phone. (yourmobilenumber@vzwpix.com)

Save it to your phone (not the card) and then you can set it as a ringtone.

I have Dueling Banjos (from Deliverance) as my ringtone.

You can find USB cables on ebay for $5 or less. Most of em dont come with drivers, but you can download the driver directly from Verizon for free.

Even if you bought the music essentials kit from Verizon (USB cable, headphones, drivers, etc...) for $20 it would pay for itself in no time when ring tones are $2.99
