This weekend was rough. Hell... lately- its been rough (I spun a hub a couple weeks ago... left me stranded about 300 miles north of here, then had my transmission drain plug work its way out (halfway) and spill oil all over my exhaust). Anyway- on my way home from my girlfriend's place when my thermostat started to stick shut... hit about 225 before it finally opened up and got me home in one piece. Doing the replacement yesterday... took the bottom bolt out of the housing (went fine), took the top out- and it took a bit of muscle, but broke loose okay. Problem was, only half of it came out... yep. Decided the best bet was to pry the housing loose (we couldn't get it off, but we were careful not to warp it) and were able to get to the stud sticking out of the block. I taped up thermostat hole and hit the stud with as much PB as I could. Got the vice grips on it and after about 10 minutes of being on edge, we finally worked it out (virtually no pressure). After that everything went smooth... and I replaced the hardware with Grade 8 to keep it from happening again. My luck I suppose. At least we didn't have to try easy outs on the block though...

At least you know it could have gotten worse the it did. Way to be patient with it.
