I broke my Jeep in Moab last September. Actually I broke it twice but fixed the driveshaft on the trail. It has been parked ever since I towed it home. But thanks to a good friend at work I was able to buy parts and rebuild my transmission. It is sitting in the garage waiting. Tomorrow morning I will start installing it. If all goes well I will be driving it by afternoon for the first time in 9 months. :D

Anything that could go wrong did. Took all day but finally got it in. Then it wouldn't start. I think the fuel pump froze up from sitting too long. I'll find out tomorrow and let you all know.

Yahoo! The PB2 mobile is running. The yzership still has a frowning tie-rod from that trip. Gets quite scary at +45 mph on the road!

Well, took The Jeep for a drive this evening. I parked it in the driveway when I got home and within a short time there was a big puddle of oil under the tranny. I have no idea what's wrong. I guess I'll have to crawl under it again tomorrow and try to see where it's leaking from. I really hope I don't have to pull the tranny again. That would suck.

If its an auto, one boo-boo i've made before was not getting the dipstick stuck all the way in.

It's an AX-15, manual. I'll check it out later today and let everyone know.

I think it's the seal between the tranny and the t-case. I guess I'll have to pull the t-case again and see why it isn't sealing up. Crap!!!!!! I really don't want to do that!!!!!

Good luck with that...at least it's running again!!!

Ok, here's the scoop. I removed the skid plate and cleaned everything up so I could tell more easily where the leak was. Then I drove it some and came home and removed the skid plate again. Just as I thought it is between the tranny and t-case. So I removed the t-case and found out that the Shift arm shaft plug is missing. We must have lost it when we rebuilt the tranny. I've looked everywhere and can't find it. That's not exactly a part which can be bought at the corner parts store either. Q'tec doesn't show it in the exploded view and doesn't sell it as far as I can tell.

So, if anyone has an old junk AX-15 tranny laying around and would be willing to send me that part, I'd be willing to pay big.

Aren't most drain/fill plugs NPT thread? Maybe a hardware store (please don't go to Home Depot, I'd be worried sick until you got back!) would have a pipe plug you could use as a temporary fix?

Well, since part #39 is what you are looking for, it shouldn't be too hard to take the part number (referenced in the diagram) to go to a dealer to get the part. Seems like it would be a lot easier than trying to find someone willing to part with it. That was kinda why I included the part number in the diagram.
