Got a question about hooking up my welder and compressor in my garage.
I have a Lincoln Weld Pack 175, obviously 220. What kind of wall recepticle and what gauge wire do I need to wire this up? Looks like a dryer plug?
Also have a Koblat 60gal (220 also)compressor that I want to hard wire to the service panel as suggested in the owners manual. The manual doesn't have any kind of wiring diagram for the comppressor. I know how to wire up the breakers in the service panel, just not sure where to make the connections in the compressor itself.
Pictures and wiring diagrams are welcome

The size of the wire depends on the size of the breaker.. i have a 40amp double pole breaker and 8 ga wire.
also, even though you are going to be relatively close to the breaker box, it wouldnt be a bad idea to wire in a shut off switch.
that way you can shut it off there when not in use so that the outlet is not hot if the welder is unplugged.
think of it as a safety issue.. god forbid you need to shut off the power to it and in a panic, you (or anyone else) shuts off all the damn power cuz they cant find the circuit breaker.
just a belts and suspenders approach.

Yeah it will be coming off a 40a breaker.
Dryer type plug?
Any help on the compressor?

Any help on the compressor? my lincoln tombstone welder uses what looks like a dryer plug, but it is a little different . Lowes and home depot have them. i even recently bought one to make a cord from my dads generator to back-feed into the house (dont worry, i shut off the main so i didnt send it out to the street wires).
have you searched for info on your compressor? it is just a pressure switch so it shouldnt be too bad.. i am trying to find specs for you..here are a couple of links

First look at the information tags on each tool. They will tell you the power needed. I would put each on it's own 220v breaker. The breaker size will need to be 20% or so larger than the power need of the tool. Wire size is disctated by the draw in amps and the length of the run. If it is in your gagrage and draws under 60 amps it should be around 8 guage wire. Do you have room in th ebreaker box for the additional breakers. Good Luck

I know how much power each tool needs and the breaker size (says in each of the manuals). Just wasn't sure about the wire.
There is nothing on wiring the compressor except for the power usage.
I have plenty of room. I installed a 200a panel and just have lights and wall outlets in it so far. These two will be the last additions for awhile, but I wanted to be sure I wouldn't run out of room. So...I went overkill on the service panel.

Another thing that comes in handy is a 25' extension cord (proper guage) for the welder. I made my own and it does help with working around the shop...
