I am thinking about buying a new jeep and trading in my 99 TJ . Does all new wranglers sell for MSRP or do any of the dealers deal?I have never paid sticker on any new car !

Thanks GENE

I don't see what being in Virginia has to do with it. I don't know anyone who has ever gotten the same from a trade in that they would have from selling it on their own.

By the way, I'm moving this to OT since there isn't any tech to this...

selling it on your own will usually net more money... but trading is the easiest route to go. if it has a clear title, youre better off, becasue they know you could sell it yourself.

if it has lots of mods, sell it. otherwise, unless you are looking to offload it the fastest way possible.

BTW...
with the '07 being as new as it is, I was flatly told by the sales manager that I could make any offer that I wanted and he would run it by the owner. (he was overseeing all new JK sales which were not at MSRP).

Basically, I went to LendingTree and got a blank check, preapproved at $1,000 below the sticker on my Rubi. I called my sales rep and told him I had a blank check in hand for $XX,XXX.xx and told him I wanted it now. They said "no" to my offer $1,000 under the sticker (which was $33,800-ish) . Then hey gave me the "if one of our banks can get you what you want, will you go with us?".... and the answer was yes.

I still walked out with it right at $32,500, which is what I offered to begin with. The only difference was that with my initial loan I had aquired, I made no down payment, and with theirs, I did. I'm still paying my wife off. :(

Every stealership is different.

I emailed several local dealers, told them I would deal anywhere between invoice, and, msrp.

I sealed the deal below invoice price for ordered options, plus the rebate, and, paid less than msrp after financing(including interest on the loan!).

This wasn't a pre-ordered lot vehicle.
It was a 2003 Rubicon,ordered September of 2002,delivered February 2003.

The closest and largest dealer wouldn't even TALK to me about placing an order, and, marked up the Rubi's on there lot ~$10,000 over msrp.
Then again,I really wasn't surprised.
That particular dealership has a long tradition of screwing every customer that tries to deal with them.

Most of the local stealerships, all makes included, know that they can wait a day.
There is an endless parade of naive soldiers who will sign anything, and, get taken to the cleaners.

Deals are out there,it just takes some time to run them down.

With the newer models coming soon, you might want to wait untill they are desparate to get rid of "last years models".
You can also save considerable money by buying a newer used Jeep.

Take my advice, and, sell your current vehicle yourself.
Most dealerships live for trade-in deals, where they can screw you at an exponential rate on BOTH ends of the deal!

As far as dealing on the new ones I'm not sure. Good luck anyway though.

Look for deals on lightly used 05s and 06s.
I just bought an 05 LJ last month that had only 10,174 on the odometer... saved a bundle over "new" price smile.gif
It seems like alot of 04-06 LJ owners are bailing and buying the 4-door Unlimiteds, so there seems to be a bunch of 2-door Unlimiteds on the market... good time to pick one up!

Had a friend sell his YJ to buy a Rubi, let's just say he has money so he didn't care what he made off it. So he sold it to Carmax for $3,500 which was the highest they'd pay and then they went and sold it for $10,500.
I would say sell it yourself becuase you'll get more money for a down payment then on trade-in.

find out dealer invoice...what the dealer pays the factory for the vehicle, you can come pretty close by using kbb, nada or edmunds and pricing the vehicle with options. Thats your starting point. Dealerships have their sales commisions built into that price. Better yet if you know someone who works for chrysler see if they will give you their "ep" number. That guarantees you 3% below dealer invoice. Same holds true if any of your family works for a government office that holds a chrysler vehicle contract. If they happen to run any rebates on the particular model that you are looking that comes off too. For Expample: $31785 msrp on a KJ limited, dealer invoice was actually 28785, minus 3% = 28699, less rebate of $4500=$24199.
Now of course being that I have family on both sides (dealership and factory) I know these lovely thing and they would probably kill me for letting these secrets out...But if you start your bidding at invoice and go up should be able to work a sweet deal, but you dont ever HAVE to pay MSRP, dealers are usually pretty happy with 200-500 over their invoice especially if it been on the lot for more than 2 months!!! SSHHH...you didn't hear this from me!
