as of now i've had my permit for 7 months and i've got a job over the summer that starts early in the morning and about three mile away, i don't want to have to get my parents up that early in the morning to get me to work, so i was wondering if i could some kind of farmers/work permit so i could drive to work without my parents. i'll be working on a farm but i don't know if thats enough to get a farmers licence.
so does anyone know if i can get some sort permit/licence to drive to and from work, i'd kind of like to stay legal, even though it's only 3 miles down a back road to get to work.
i have a friend that told me that about ten years ago his uncle was able to the same thing.

I do know that some states do issue "farm Licences" How do you need your permit to get your full licence? Why don't you call or go to your local MVC?
Three miles isn't too far, ride a bike, save your hard earned cash from the gas pump.
And YES Cherokee Man, We DO have farms, they are slowly dissappearing, but they are the best damn farms EVER.

I never heard of a "pre license, license" but I know that they make some exceptions when you finally get your provisional license.
Practice unsupervised driving for at least one year
You must observe the following requirements and restrictions while driving with a provisional license:
No driving between 12:01 a.m. and 5 a.m. See GDL Exemptions for exceptions due to employment or religious reasons
GDL Exemptions
"All drivers under 21 that wish to apply for hours-related exemptions for employment or religious reasons must provide legible documentation on letterhead signed by employer, organization or religious institution stating the reasons for this request
Include signature, title, address and telephone number of designated official "
Passengers must be from your household. Only one additional person from outside your household is allowed in the vehicle
You can't use cell phones, hand held video games or any other hand held electronic device
Seat belts must be worn at all times
See GDL Exemptions for hours-related exemptions for employment or religious reasons
Hope this helps The section in "s above

3 miles isn't too far. How about just riding a bike if you can't get a license of some sort?
high-speed electric wheelchair? :D

I'd say ride a bike... like mentioned above... save the money from the gas pump. Then your parents will only have to get out of bed when the weather is fowl to get you to work.

If the 'rents complain about getting up, just remind them that you're being thrifty by saving gas money and wear & tear on the Jeep.

If its a backroad- stay off to the side and get a quad or dirtbike... Better on gas anyways.

How long do you have to have your permit for in NJ before you can get your license? Here in Oklahoma its only 6 months. Isnt the age there 17? One of my friends in NJ said something like that...

You've had the permit for 7 mo. and still don't have your license???
Here you just need to have 30 hours behind the wheel and you can take your road test.
Why don't you just get your regular license?
What kind of a job is it? If it is an outdoor physical labor job, I'd just ride a bike to work. If it is an indoor, non-physical labor job, then I would not want to arrive at work all sweaty every day, and would look for an alternative.
Is the Jeep yours or your parents?

Is the Jeep yours or your parents? yeah i thought about riding my bike to and from but to work is mostly uphill and at 6 in the morning.
i don't have my licence yet because i got my permit right when i turned 16 and you have to be 17 to get a licence.
and the jeep is mine, but the parents are "paying" for it

Or even (provided you are on pavement), a Vespa type scooter would work if you prefer and you could keep it for use when your wrenching on the Jeep and transportation or sell it when you get licensed.
