So Mrs.OhioYJ and I will be in Vegas this summer for a week, and I'm wondering about things we should definitely see. I'm sure we'll tour the casinos, but neither of us are really big gamblers, so this will be a very small part of the trip.

Neither of us have seen the Grand Canyon, and this is a great chance to see it. Should we just maybe find some sort of tour, or would it be better to just rent a car and drive out there?

What about Hoover Dam, is that really that interesting?

Ideas, Suggestions, ?

Zion N.P. in Utah. It's a nice day trip from Vegas and well worth it IMO. Death Valley is kinda cool to see as well.

If you are more the outdoors type and like to go hiking, etc, Buckskin Gulch is a nice slot canyon that I enjoyed hiking. If you want you can make a full day hike there and make a round trip or you can just hike in for an hour or 2 and then backtrack. That was the first slot I even went to and am still quite impressed with it.
If you are willing to drive a little farther, Bryce Canyon has some of the most beautifull scenery in Utah. A horseback ride through the hoodoos is realls awe-inspiring.
Lots of stuff to do in that area. It is really one of the most spectacular areas of the country.

If you deciede to get out of Vegas I would say rent a car. Also depends on how long you are down there but they always have those time share things. The wife and I did that and yes it was about a 2 hour deal but we got $75.00 for doing it. so that was free money well not really free they took 2 hours of my time. But I would do it again.

Yeah, in my opinion Boulder Dam (or Hoover if you wanna call it that) is not worth an extra trip.
Oh yeah, if you've never been to the GC, do that first....you won't be dissapointed.

I would rent a car at least for a day or two to drive to the grand canyon. I lived in Vegas for 3 years and I did a day trip to the grand canyon. I left at 8am and it took about 3 1/2 to 4 hours each way to get there. the wife and I spent all day seeing the sights and then drove home after sun set. The hoover dam tour sucks now since they limit where you can go after 9/11 and I wouldn't recomend it anymore. Red rocks park west of town is great if you are into hikeing or just sightseeing . PM me if you want any other tips. I worked security at one of the strip casinos while I lived there. I also recomend Blue Man Group at the Luxor Utah is only a few hours north on I 15 and there is Zion NP, Bryce Canyon. I would not recomend going to death valley in the summer since noumerous people have problems with heat exhastion and other heat illnesses there. When I was there in December it was in the mid 90's and my mother in law from NY got sick from the combination of heat and being below sea level

we were out there in oct. for a funeral, one of the things we did was go up l.v. blvd at about 11 pm and just go 20 miles out siad of town and look at the stars and back at the city. It a great panoramic picture. plus you go by l.v. motor speedway which has a gift sho( just open in the daytime) I would also recommed going to the Main st station (was the old train station) the microbrew has good food and of course good fresh beer.If you need any eletronic stop at frys. very good prices. any way you go there is alot of great things to do.

The canyon is awesome, definately see it, Hover dam was pretty amazing as well, I definately recomend taking a guided dam tour, Bryce canyon is relatively close i believe and it was pretty, as well as Zion natl park. The scenery out there is amazing, and so much different then here in ohio i would def reccomend a rental car and some day trips. As for the grand canyon tour i am not to sure, was there in 99 and backpacked to the bottom. It was amazing, but i dont know about and tours to reccomend

When I went with my parents a few years ago, we took a helicopter tour of the grand canyon. That was pretty sweet, but it was expensive. I kept busy on the strip most of the time, and I wasnt even old enough to gamble.
