I have a 4 dr JK 07'. Looking to put a 4" SkyJacker suspension Lift w/37" tires.. 4wheeldrive parts is claiming tire size isn't an issue for fenders or anything, but the tire size will eventually rub on the front part of the rear tires. Apparently the body weld on the edge of the body sticks out into the area in front of the rear tires. Sure enough, after looking at what he was talking about there is a metal edge that sticks into the wheel well from the front of the rear tire wells. It kind of pokes into the well as a 90 degree corner.
Questions:
1. Anyone try 37" tires with 4" skyjacker lift?
2. Anyone had problems with this part rubbing on the rear tires?
3. Do you think that the corner of this metal edge can be shaved off w/o affecting anything structural with the body frame?
This is my 1st time owning a jeep and don't have much technical experience with lifts. I just know I have seen many 4dr jk's with a 2.5" or 4" lift wih35's and with the long wheelbase on the JK it just does't do it justice....I think a 4" with 37's will be minimum, if of course there is no rub....
thanks for any advice....

of those that i have seen, i have not seen anyone with clearance issues. some kits ask what tire and wheel combination you plan to run do see if you need to have spacers that move the front bumper out a little. some combinations of tire with a deep offset cause rubbing on the bumper.
a little something about the suspension system on your Jeep. the relation of the tire to the body will change with a lift. any respectable lift kit should come with bumpstop extenstions to prevent body/tire contact.... but sometimes,we have to add to what the supplier dont send us. smile.gif

Stock axle shafts and 37's might be pushing it a bit if your crawling rocks...IMO

not sure you have actually looked at what I am talking about. In front of the rear wheels on any 07 jeep has the edge of the body weld sticking into the wheel well. It is in the center of the tire, not left or right. i was at the body shop yesterday and they said they could shave off the part sticking out and shouldb be fine....
Have you guys installed any of the lifts or just sell them?
There is no problem with rubbing anywhere else....fenders & bumpers are all clear.

Not to bash this forum at all but if you are looking for TONS of info specific to JKs, there is another forum out there.
www.jk-forums.com (http://www.jk-forums.com)
This topic has been discussed in depth and most have shaved this area off as you described. Even have pics in some of the threads.
I do agree that 37s may be a bit much for stock shafts but I have always waited to upgrade when something breaks with past Jeeps. No two people drive a vehicle the same way. Just have that in the back of your mind that you may have to shell out additional cash at some point.

yea, I just searched and came up with the same results. Not sure where the pics went but I'm sure they are on there. If you need to see them, join and ask for someone to send you some pics. should have them in no time.
