Quick question as I am new to these things...

I kind of need the soft top re-inforcing kit from Q-Tec, but I'm really not interested in spending $50 for it. (http://www.quadratec.com/products/13022_100.htm)

I found this at harbor freight for $14.

My question is that is this a special rivet gun only for threaded inserts or can this gun also be used with pop rivets and others??

It can only be used with the threaded inserts.

Pop rivets have a shaft that is gripped and pulled. This unit has a mandrel that is threaded into the gun then into the insert. When you have sufficiently squeezed it, you have to unthread the mandrel.

I've had these for over 20 years and love them. I actually squeezed one so hard, I broke the mandrel.

Thanks... Just wanted to make sure. I think I'll try this one out.

Good luck with the one from Harbor Freight. It will probably do what you want if you are careful with it. I have had one of the cheap ones, and one of the good ones. You know which one is still here!
