the wife wants an ipod but she needs something that is very very user friendly. Which is a better quality product? easier to use? easier to download songs and videos? runs the most file formats?

If it's for your wife and she "wants an iPod". Get her an iPod. End of story. If you try to get something better, she will always wonder if the iPod would have been better. That, and iPods are just easy to use. I'm not an iPod user, but my wife loves and uses hers. :D

My wife and I each have an iPod. They are really easy to use and update with new songs/videos/etc.

We've also discussed this here in the past, so a search would probably help you out.

hmmm... i get my wife cool things and she wont use em.

i bought her a Panasonic MP3 and MPEG player. it plays videos cleanly and has very good audio... a plus with her hearing impairment. anyway. i found it in her glovebox. dead. as usual.

I've had 2 Ipods and now I have a Zune... Both are good, but I think I prefer the Zune. The new 'zune-pad' controls on the Gen 2 Zunes blow the Ipod's click wheel away.

As much as I read that people hate Itunes, the Zune software is worse ;)

I have an iPod and iPhone, as far as ease of use and design, they can't be beat. Itunes is okay but Ive tried the Zune software and it is terrible. Zunes have alot of great features but they seem bulky.

My 65 year old mother picked up my iPod, never having used one, turned it on, found the music she wanted, started playing it, and adjusted the volume all without being told how in under 30 seconds. That's how easy an iPod is to use.

Never used a Zune, so I can't comment on them. I do like my iPods, though.

i'll add one comment.

a friend got an ipod from her husband for a birthday gift. they had the hardest time trying to get music to upload to the ipod. the panasonic mp3/mpeg player i got Lori came with software... but once plugged into the USB port, its just another drive. i can drag and drop all the music i want. silky smooth. :)

Yeah I used to have an mp3 player with drag and drop, but the problem came with the advanced tagging of the tracks, my music is scattered from various downloads and rips of cds that half of them did not have cd title, track number ect embeded in thier data, Thats why I love itunes as it sorts music very well.

I went with the Creative Zen from Wally world. the one I got for the wife is a 2G (only size in pink, color she wanted) and a 4G for me for $69 and $90. they have a slot for memory card, 2.5" screen and is the size of a credit card and about 3/8 thick.

IPOD, end of thread.

I carry my entire (600+) cd collection with me when I travel. I have a gen 2 version, older than dirt as far as electronic gizmos go, the battery is shot, but it still works plugged in and gets used every day. I dont think its seen a day off in the last 5 years. Its been dropped, kicked, tossed, banged, etc and just keeps working. Sure it looks like hell, but as long as it plays I'm happy.

I should have clarified on my post. Mine is in a similar boat as kwrangln's iPod. I use it 9 hours a day at work (plugged into the computer for power), and also about 4 hours a week at the gym. I got mine from those freeipods.com deals three years ago and it's still kicking. I've got 60gb of music on it and constantly have a collection of most all of my music.

Last year I picked up a cable to hook up the iPod to my Alpine deck in the CJ. Now I have much more music selections for work or the CJ.
