i was talking to a friend recently and she said she knew of 3 others whose Xbox 360 had a hardware failure in the last month. anyone else recently?

Lori is droping mine off at the UPS Store to get shipped back. I have about 10 months left on the warranty. anything after that and i have to take it apart and start playing with it myself.:rotfl:

Aren't most of the problems centered around the laser inside it? I know of a couple guys who said there lasers just randomly quit working right

mine has gotten the red ring once before, Microsoft is great about sending in 360's... Their Zunes... not so much.

According to Consumer Reports the Xbox 360 has a 30% hardware failure rate and I know of 3 people here that had there Xbox crash and burn within 6 months of prchasing it.

Mine hasn't gone out yet, bought it in '06. I heard that heat is a problem...so hopefully keeping mine in the open will help. I wish I could send mine in and get an HDMI one. :)

kinda off subject, but i wonder how well the PS3's are going to hold up. The PS2's were bulletproof. Mine is 6 years old and never even glitched.

i want a PS3. i heard they are updating the blue-ray though. should be pretty cool.

I bought 2 PS3's as soon as they came out, not for my personal, but to sell them. I waited outside Best Buy for 30 hours in freezing temps and they released 24 of them. I snagged 2 of the 24 spending nearly $1400.

Two days later i sold one of them on Ebay and sold the other one a week later. I doubled my profits and it was Awesome!

But anyways, people tell me that they like their Wii or 360 better than the ps3 for many reasons. Games, durability, hardware. I've only played it a few times, but i still think i'd choose the 360 over it.

You are right though, PS2's are bulletproof. But better than that, i think my Genesis still works!!!

Ive had mine since launch day and never a problem, I think the failure rates are alot of hype.

i dunno about the hype.
after my first one failed (spring update just prior to Halo3 Beta ) i bought an intercooler just to be safe. it is one of the earlier ones with only 2 fans. I'm gonna upgrade to the one with 3 fans and the extra USB and video ports I think.

I know some guys that are Sony fans and love their PS3... my problem is that there are not that many games out there that I want to play on the PS3. Also.. i think that some of the games I have played, the controls were kinda screwey.

The older Xbox360's failed left and right. Since they updated to three fans and bigger heat sinks they have had a lot less hardware problems. My brother had an older one and it failed in 9 months. His new one (which Microsoft was super on the ball with) works great. I waited to buy mine and I bought an elite with all the bells and whistles so I hope it lasts. I also bought the service package which kicks in after the microsoft warantee and last an additional 2 years.

My 360 crashed several months ago and I had a replacment back from Microsoft within 2 weeks. No problems since but if I have a problem I will upgrade to a 360 that has a HDMI output to hook into my LCD tv

My bro-in-law has one with the extra intercooler and hasn't had an issue.
