Figures there is nothing (yet) for NJ ;)
I've done my share of driving doorless without mirrors without an issue, but I've gotten so used to using them all the time I do have a set of mirrors when going doorless.

A good thing to keep in mind is that even though it may be legal to drive with solely a windshield mounted rear-view, you get awful used to having that least the driver's side mirror there. In Maine I only have to have the one, but I like having my drivers side mirror there with no doors. The first time I drove with no doors (and no side mirrors), honestly, I almost hit somebody changing lanes and it was due to my own foolishness at not looking around well enough. I think it's well worth it to fashion something cheap to have there. Doesn't have to be fancy, mine only cost like $11. It just uses a cheapo replacement style clamp-on chrome mirror, and a bolt I already had, it just drops right into the hinge hole and does the job.

Since it says "a mirror" I would tend to agree with you. When I lived in TN, where you can drive a quivering shell of rust down the highway if you want, I did take the time to go to the hardware store and get a small convex mirror. It's one that has double sided tape on the back so that you can just stick it anywhere. It's about 2" in diameter. I put it in the upper left corner of my windshield. Still have it too and it still comes in handy at times. With that, and the doors removed, I could see pretty much just as much as I could with a standard driver's side mirror.

I don't see where anything more than a rear view is required unless your rearview is blocked by a trailer or something else. That would explain why I've never had a problem with never having side view mirrors here in Ga. I guess it's all in interpretation.
I'm still a fan of side view mirrors. In fact I just ordered a set yesterday.

With my hard top and hard doors, I don't have side mirrors. I never swapped them from the half doors. Never had trouble either.
This guy didn't have anything for WI yet, either.

For me, my mirrors are a tool that I use while driving. I gave the hard top with full doors that have mirrors on the doors..but when I remove the top and doors, I bolt up outside mirrors.
Look real close and you can see the factory mirror behind the after market (That I got from Q-Tech)

Here is the mounting bracket for the after market mirror

Actually, the after market mirros realy do not look that bad, and they are very adjustable..the swing away with hardly any effort but yet they will hold position at hwy speeds in excess of 60mph

Actually, to add to this discussion. Here in Pa., if your Jeep came from the factory WITH doors, you are not supposed to remove them, UNLESS you substitute them with an adiquate replacement. And then, moving on to mirrors, you only need one unobstructed mirror. So here in Pa., we don't have to have side mirrors as long as the center one is fuctioning perfectly.
(b) Other violations.--It is unlawful for any person to do any of the following:
(1) Willfully or intentionally remove (other than for purposes of repair and
replacement) or render inoperative, in whole or in part, any item of vehicle equipment which was
required to be installed at the time of manufacture or thereafter upon any vehicle, by any law,
rule, regulation or requirement of any officer or agency of the United States or of the
Commonwealth, if it is intended that the vehicle be operated upon the highways of this
Commonwealth unless the removal or alteration is specifically permitted by this title or by
regulations promulgated by the department.
Here is a copy of an email from DaimlerChrysler...
Dear Mr. Ulrich:
Your recent web mail letter was forwarded to this office, the Commercial Vehicle Safety and Enforcement Division, for response.
We contacted DaimlerChrysler to get clarification on which Jeep Series required doors to be installed at the time of manufacturer. The Jeep Series CJ, which was discontinued in 1986, was available without doors. Jeep Series CJ manufactured prior to 1986 is the ONLY Jeep which can be operated on the highway without doors. The Jeep TJ and YJ models are manufactured with driver and passenger side doors. These vehicles must be equipped with the Original Equipment Manufacturer or equivalent doors while operated on the highway. If these vehicles are being driven on the highway without the doors attached as originally installed, a Violation Ticket could be issued and a Notice and
Order given or both.
If you require further clarification, please contact our office.
Yours truly,
Mike Woods, Manager
Vehicle Inspection and Standards
Commercial Vehicle Safety and Enforcement Division

64Jeeper....
you are in fact correct with that. that was an argument i had with one of my coworkers with a CJ5 i once owned... :(
as for mirrors, the interpretation is pretty clear for states similar to GA... at least one mirror with an obstructed rear view.
i also have the 2" round convex mirrors on my JK. mine are the ones that you can spin around a little. their handy offroad and parking etc.... i use em for supplemental view with the doors off. i dont rely on them solely, though.
arnt yall like the "free state" of somthing?
I think that you're thinking of New Hampshire and their motto of "Live free or die". It's a bit more well known than Vermont's "Freedom and Unity" which is funny considering how many here want to secede from the Union.

Wait...Are you saying that here in Ga, we're not supposed to take the doors off our Jeeps? Glad they don't enforce that one.
Or are we talking strictly highways and not the roads in our cities...

I've got these mirrors in black...I can't keep the bolts tight to keep the mirrors in place on the highway, have you used loctite or anything?
Other than that I think they're awsome for the price, and I know they take a beating, although I lost one of the rubber trim pieces last time off road.

MIJeep, instead of buying the big square mirrors, get the old little round ones. Less weight hanging out there to make the bolts loosen.
