The poll pretty much says it all.

As for me, I'm a bit of a freak. I write with my right hand but carry my wallet in my left back pocket. And when I used to wear a wris****ch, I wore it on my right arm.

And when I used to play soccer as a kid, I predominantly used my left foot...

I use my left hand for the majority of everything i do, i'm still wanting to know though, is it genetics or what that determine which hand you use?

My dad and his dad are both left handed, but i know people who are left-handed with no others in their entire family

I don't think it has anything to do with genetics. I use my right hand for almost everything. On the other hand (no pun intended), my dad is a strange case. He isn't ambidextrous but he uses his left hand to write, right hand to throw a ball, bats lefty, kicks righty, wears his watch on his left hand, uses eating untencils with his right hand, and uses tools with his left hand. Very strange... maybe it's even more strange that I pick up and remember what my dad does with either his left or right hand.

Well, I'm right handed now. Should've been a lefty, but when I was kid the schools around here basically "forced" students to be right handed. They viewed it as almost a handicap because "everything in the world is setup for right handed people". I clearly remember getting in trouble for coloring with my left hand. Took me 'till 2nd grade to get used to using my right all the time. After that I could use either hand for anything for awhile (till high school). Now the only thing I can still do predominantly left handed naturally is box.

Ambidextrous
No one in my family is left handed, so I don't know where I got it from! maybe it has to do with your environment growing up, like the toys you play with, experiences etc...
I wonder if kilts are coming with iPod holders, built in bun warmers, maybe even Sirius...

Left hand:
Eat, write and shoot pool.

Right hand:
Throw and bat.

Learning how to use a pencil sharpener was a struggle. In preschool, I could not figure out how fellow students could easily sharpen a pencil while it was a futile attempt to get it all comfortably coordinated. Also in early grade school, the teachers would make me (and the other left handed writers) tilt the paper at an angle. For what reason, I have no idea. I just kept turning it back.

As for signing my name, a majority of chained or leashed pens and stylus' are set up for right handers.

I never thought of this until now.... Which foot do you put your shoe onto first? For me, it is my left foot.

I was done the same way. They tried everything in their power to make me right handed even going so far as to tell my parents that left handed people are generally slower and have a greater tendency to be retarded. Little did my second grade teacher know that my father was left handed. She backtracked a lot when she found that out.

There are only two things I would miss if I were to loose my right arm. One is shifting gears, the other...well, family board and all....

I too started out writing left handed, my mom is left handed, but I learned to writed right handed early on in school.
I bat left handed, play golf left handed, throw right handed, play tennis left handed, use dining utensils left handed, wear my watch on my right hand, carry my wallet in my right pocket, so Im pretty messed up...

I very strontly left-handed. When I was very young my parents tried to teach me the "right" way. Failing that they refused to let any of my teachers try to make me switch. No one on either side of the family has ever been left-handed as far back as anyone can remember, so genetics would not appear to be the cause. Although I have heard it is definitely something you are born with.

In all my years I have run into many people claiming to be ambidextrous. I have only met a very few I would consider that to be true. Almost always one hand is dominant. One guy thought just because his left arm did not hang limp at his side he was ambidextrous.

I think it is interesting to note that even though only 10% of the population at large is left-handed, at the time I'm typing this 26% of the people who have responded to this poll are left-handed. Kind of makes you wonder about the hobby and if there isn't something that attracts more than the normal number of lefties. When I was teaching martial arts 3 out of 4 of the highest ranked people at the school and all of the top 3 instructors were lefties. Now, before we start thinking we are superior in some way I'd like to also point out to my fellow Southpaws that 35% of the prison population in this country are also left-handed.

It's because we have been given a bum wrap man. It's discrimination I tell ya'. Everything is oriented to the right handed people and we are forced to adapt, and not all of us are able to make the changes.

I write, throw and use a fishing pole, and kick left handed/foot.

I play guitar, bat, play golf, shoot a bow right handed.

I grew up shooting left handed but since I found out I'm right eye dominant I've been trying to teach myself to shoot right handed. Using a handgun has been pretty easy since I never shot one left handed that much before switching but man is it a pain to try to shoot a shotgun the opposite side after 20 years of doing it left handed.

I do 99% right handed. Meaning I'm left brained and that's totally true. I can't create something from nothing if my life depended on it.

I can build anything my heart desires though. Very good with my hands. Very good shot. And things must be neatly organized for me to be happy. So, no odd shaped swimming pools or landscaping for me. LOL!!!

My oldest son is left handed, but can also do most everything just as well with his right. I notice that like me, the older he gets, the more left dominate he gets (I got more right dominant due to school, like I said earlier). I have however, managed to keep him shooting right handed. Much easier to find firearms that way.

I have noticed that lots of actors are lefties. But most of those websites claim Billy the kid was left-handed. He wasn't.
