So I'm driving home from the gym and a haircut, and I decide to take the long way to my house. I pull up to the light and an old F250 flat bed truck pulls up with two guys in it, looked like landscapers, to turn right. I notice of course, that their rear brakes are spewing flames and smoke, so I start yelling and honking my horn. They start driving, a garbage truck honks his horn and they finally pull over, and I do too, grab the fire extinguisher, and run up and help put out the flames, with their bottles of water. Smoke was everywhere, and they just seemed kinda dazed that they were actually on fire. Just goes to show, sometimes being prepared, (like carrying a concealed weapon) is not as paranoid as some people think it is.
My uncles old CJ would have burned down twice if he hadn't been prepared either, so learn from those guys and my uncle, better safe than sorry.
When I first bought BIG RED... it started spewing and back firing and eventually caught on fire. Luckily... I was able to put it out with an old sweater I had with me. Otherwise, my new (2 me) 73 Bronco would have been a pile of ashes...

Back in the 60's a buddy and I were "trying out" a new Carter AFB on my 56 wagon. We would run out Rt 60 to a straight stretch and then bring it off the line and time to a certain point. No air cleaner and she lit up under the hood. I also had a temporary clear plastic fuel line so that added heat quick! No fire extinquisher, my buddy threw a new nylon jacket on it and it went "whoosh".We were scrabbling dirt and gravel from the side of the road with our hands and throwing it on the carb. Lots of folks drove by us staring but no one would help. We got the fire out, but both were out of breath. Lost pride, paint, fingers were bleeding and had to get her towed home. Everyone should carry a fire extinquisher!

I had to use an extinguisher saturday. Me and a buncha guys went up to Haspin Acres for the annual Zuk Spook run. A guy that was with us blew a tire bead and nobody had OBA. Luckily we found a can of starting fluid to reseat the bead. To make a long story short we didnt use the exact amount of fluid it takes to reseat the bead and ended up catching the tire on fire. We got it put out and finally reset the bead so we could keep wheelin.

I carry a 5lb and 10lb in the XJ and a 5lb in the YJ in my work trk 88 Mack I also carry 2, 5lb in the cab and 10lb on the cab guard. Last year while pulling a drop deck I had a brake catch fire I used up the 5lb and was about to pull the pin on the 10lb when the fire dept pulled up only damage was the brake and one tire. Was able to save most the trk from heavy damage

When i was doing landscaping a few years back, my boss' (uncle who lives across the street) old F250 dumper was the truck we used. He had hydraulic fluid leaking from the reservoir onto the muffler. Most days, the muffler wasn't hot enough to do anything but smoke the fluid and smell like all hell. But one day we were hauling ass to get to a lawn before they had their open house and obviously the muffler got super heated. When we pulled on to the road i told him that there was a lot more smoke than usual. As I got out of the truck i look and just freaked, huge flames coming from the fluid on the muffler. He had his extinguisher and that worked the first time. After that was out about 5 minutes later it burst up again and unfortunately we had to use water, which i know is no way to put out an oil fire so i was skeptical. But from then on he has two 10lbs in the truck just in case. i haven't gotten one yet for the jeep, but think about it all the time.

I small fire extinguisher will put out an amazing amount of fire if used correctly. In my firefighting days I pulled up on a house fire in my personal vehicle (I was an officer and responded directly to the scene) After assessing that everyone was out of the house I proceeded to try to locate the fire which I found to be on the landing of the attic steps. The fire was a large chest of drawers and extended up the roof to the peak. I had a 5 lb. ABC extinguisher and I crawled up the steps (I had another guy at the door to back me up) and hit the chest and swept up the underside of the roof for a few seconds and the fire just went out. I could not have been more amazed. all we had to do was pull up a couple of lines and perform salvage and overhaul operations.
