My uncle has an 05 TJ Unlimited. Someone backed into him and broke the passenger side fog light bracket (the light is still good). I went to 2 Jeep junkyards on Friday trying to find the part. I am now realizing that the bracket is kind of integrated into the light, so you can't just buy the bracket without buying a light.
One junkyard wanted to charge me $75 for a light and another yard wanted $100. Both lights are used BTW. WTF is is with these prices? The guy at the second place claimed that a brand new light was $180. Hell, I could buy a brand new set of factory lights for about that price!!!
I can order a brand new fog light from Jeepsareus for ~$70!!!
Anyway... I found a guy on JU selling an 05 fog light with a broken lens for $20. I'll just swap the lenses and be good to go. Plus I'll have an extra bulb too...

one of the reasons I dont go to the scrap yards anymore as they tend to want near new prices for worn out scrap..add a few dollars more, and you too can have BRAND new parts!

Yeah many junk yards are like that these days, almost all of them around me are like that, you might as well by new. A friend of mine slid her Mustang off the highway on some ice a couple years back, and hit a guard rail, minimal damage I guess, but it needed a hood, fender, bumper cover, and headlight. I priced the stuff mail order, from Ford, and through a couple junk yards. The junk yard quoted me a price $200 higher than the Ford dealer! I told him what Ford wanted for the hood, and his response was his was painted (not the right color of course).
I had the same experience with the junk yards here recently when I wanted a set of factory alloys for my Cavalier, they gave me some stupid price, and when I told them that's $40 more per wheel than what they cost new, he told me I'm full of it, because his computer also shows list price for new parts.....

Have you tried Craigs List? Also, you might want to check some local 4X4 BB sites. I have found and sold parts through both.
(BTW, anyone need/want a frame for a Bestop TJ soft top? :D )

Seems any yard that specializes in a specific type of vehicle, like a jeep yard, will charge more than the local u-pull-it yard with all types of vehicles in it. I guess the ones I go to don't usually have newer vehicles though so that could also explain why they tend to be cheaper.

I know in this area, u-pull-it yards are becoming very hard to find. Only the we-pull-it, then rake you over the coals yards around here.

I do not know of any u-pull-it yards around here...
I found a guy selling an 05 fog light with a broken lens on JU. I'll just swap the lens with the old one.

I have a few u-pull it yards near me and they are sometimes real cheap on parts and some parts they are way high.

I called a couple of our local salvage yards here looking for a f-350 headlight..for abt 10-15 more, I could order a NEW one! I remember the old times when you could go in a pull what you needed..it was like being turned loose inside a Treasure Chest!

Thanks... I'll keep them in mind next time I need something... I'll definitely stay away from the 2 places I went to last week.
