Does anyone find this as alarming as I do? http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/27989275/ And I wonder why every handgun, carbine and long gun is back ordered to oblivion. And I wonder why with the bail out of big business in the real dollar amount of around $8 trillion the dollar in my wallet is devaluing every second of the day. And I continue to wonder why this great nation every went off of the gold standard. I am being rhetorical of course by I seriously wonder when people will start looking beyond their driveway and the gas station down the street.

BTW, when I am fitted for my bar code tattoo I would like it on my forearm instead of on the front of my neck.

Oh, and another food for thought, with Hillary Clinton nominated for Secretary of State, this great nation will have had a Clinton or Bush in power for the last 16 and now (+) years. Lemmings running for the sea!!!

I have to pay someone to do that now. That just means in the future it would be done for free :D:D.

This just smacks of McCarthyism, only now we aren't after communists.

I have said many times before (maybe not so much here) that I support our troops and law enforcement...right up to the point that they come after me and my freedoms.

I will stand up and fight with and for those that are defending me. I will defend myself from those who intend to strip me of my freedoms. Even if it means my own demise. I will not give up, and I will take as many with me as I have to.

Doc, I like that smilie!
Kind of reminds me of V for Vendetta, the "safety" of the populace is placed above everything else, including personal freedoms. And of course many of these plans are spear-headed by so called "republicans"
They have all sold out this country imo..

If you count Bush Sr. and include his vice presidency then it's now 28 years

the dollar in my wallet is devaluing every second of the day.

I'm pretty sure it has been gaining value over the past weeks, even though it went down a lot in the begining, it's not as bad as it was and is getting stronger.

That's like more than 10% of this countries life being "run" by 2 families...weird...

Is it that those families are just that smart to keep getting people to vote for them or just that stupid to keep applying for the job?

I took an oath when I enlisted...

I, (NAME), do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; and that I will obey the orders of the President of the United States and the orders of the officers appointed over me, according to regulations and the Uniform Code of Military Justice. So help me God.

I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic

The second ammendment of the constitution says we can keep and bear arms, so I must defend that.

will obey the orders of the President of the United States and the orders of the officers appointed over me, according to regulations and the Uniform Code of Military Justice.

The UCMJ says I must obey "lawful" orders, an order specifically going against the constitution of the United States would be unlawful.

Take special note of the following line.

against all enemies, foreign and domestic

As for the article quoted in the origional post, its nothing to worry about, just typical press trying to stir up folks.

I spent 6 years working emergency response to CBRNE and terrorism incidents right here in the good ole USA. I've worked with every agency mentioned in the article, including the Marine CBIRF and National Guard CST's from 6 different states.

These are not door kickers trying to take away your rights, these are the folks who are cleaning up anthrax, these are the folks sampling and testing air quality at the Trade Center, these are the people who stop bad juju from reaching the general populace, been there, done that. I've been through decontamination lines with the Marines, CST's, FEMA reps, EPA, START contractors, independant HAZMAT contractors across the country, and these are not the people you have to worry about.

Because the military gets training in working in chemical protective clothing, decontamination, and using indicator papers/instruments, they are a logical manpower source for incidents, in their limited capability. Its people already on the payroll with basic training, why pay someone else to come in and do the same job?

I agree with you on most of that line of thought. However, there is at least one instance in recent memory that says otherwise. There was a little storm that blew in to Louisiana a couple of years back. In that aftermath of that disaster, the POLICE AND NATIONAL GUARD BOTH went door-to-door confiscating firearms in the name of public safety. That is a direct violation of the Constitutional rights of the private citizen. Explain to me how this can happen once and not be expected to happen again.

A direct quote from you was in regards to the oath that you and I both swore when we signed that contract...

I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic

Every other service member has taken the same oath of service including NatGuard. I am not sure how a LEO's oath goes, and I am sure that it varies from state to state, province to province, but I am also pretty sure that it reads very similar to that of the military. So I ask you: How could this happen? Are people too afraid to question their superiors? Are people so afraid for their jobs that they would violate the oath that they swore to as well as the trust of the people that look to them for protection?

Granted, there were some idiots out there that were shooting at the helo's and ground troops who were providing aid. How do we circumvent that? When the dog that bites the masters hand looks like every other dog in the pen it is hard to distinguish one from another. So do we take the teeth away from all the dogs?

same here it's sad when you think you might have to someday fullfill the part that every military man hopes never happens
