My Yj will not stay running after it warms up and the idle kicks down. It starts up fine and runs fine until I kick the idle down; under 1200 to 1500rpm it just dies. I had the carb rebuilt; installed a new fuel filter; new air filter; it just won't keep running. I bought it a couple of months ago and the guy told me it had been sitting for several years. I put 10 gallons of fresh premium gas in the tank and fuel conditioner but so far no luck. It is really aggravating since it runs so smooth when I first start it. Any suggestions would be appreciated, Thanks!

So did you have the problem before the rebuild? If you did not I would take it back to where that was done. It has been awhile and I have had so many problems with mine but I think mine did that and I had to get the carb adjusted and I also got a new choke for it. Have not had that issue anymore.

Yes I had the same problem before the rebuild; I was hoping the rebuild was going to take care of it but it did not! I just bought a parts Jeep that has a fairly new Motorcraft carb.; thought maybe I would swap the carbs and see if it helps but I still think something else is the problem???

If I swap in the Motorcraft carb from my 87 parts Jeep can I disconnect all of the emissions crap? My 88 is registered Historic so it does not require any safety or emissions inspections.

I think an 88 does still have an egr valve and I would agree with Chris G.. Just pull the vacuum line off it and plug the vacuum line. And see if it makes a difference . If it doesn't try the Motorcraft carb. It's a good swap anyway.
